304821 2004-12-17 10:14:00 i have finished my pc, its an athlon 64 3000+ with, a gigabyte k8ns, powercolor radeon 9600xt 128mb, nutech 16x dual layer dvd +/- writer, 512mb ddr400 pc3200, 120gb seagate 7200 rpm barracuda, pixelview play tv pro, 17' cmv lcd screen (12ms refresh rate), i love it, i ran motherboard monitor 5 and it reported back that it had an average temperature (cpu) of 55c, and the case 25c, i think maye i should put some case fans in. The main problem i have encountered however is i have loaded windows xp 64 bit edition, the real deal, its crap, incompatible with many programs including vital utilities, i know i should instal the linux 64 bit kernal, but im just wonderingwhat other peoples experience has been with xp 64 bit, would i notice much of a difference running just standard windows xp pro 32 bit?
thanks in advance,
Jared

Linux is quiet a bit further down the track but, not sure how far with the app's

304826 2004-12-17 11:07:00 Looks like WinXP 64-Bit missed out the paragraphing module. ninja (1671)
304827 2004-12-17 12:37:00 From my own experience, with Windows XP 64 bit running 64 bit programs, you can expect as much as a 15% increase in performance.
On the other hand, expect on average a 30% decrease in performance from 32 bit applications.

Until the majority of the programs you use on a day to day basis become available in 64 bit editions, don't waste your time.

If you want to make full use of the 64-bit capabilities, I suggest converting to Linux ;)
