304602 2004-12-17 07:26:00 Hello All
There are boom microphones on headsets, desktop mics, & throat mics. I know about the first two But need some info on throat mics. Would one pick up a voic clearly, with no stray sound interferance, as from the first two? Wouls a throat mic be a good choice with a speech recognition program? Thanks PJ

I would pick a mic that sits directly in front of your mouth. You can get some very good monodirectional (or whatever) mics if you're willing to spend a bit of money that'll pick up your voice if it's pointing straight at your mouth, and not much else.

However a cheap $15 boom mic works fine for speech recognition.

304605 2004-12-18 07:33:00 They can't be too bad if they have blurbs like this ( here (www.cabelas.com IIWE?id=0025098226548a&navCount=0&cmCat=srchdx&cm_ven=srchdx&cm_ite=srchdx&_requestid=78991)):

304607 2004-12-18 07:40:00 Anytime mate, but I would feel awfully - different - should I look like this here (www.con-space.com)... Growly (6)
304608 2004-12-18 07:45:00 But, PJ they are not likely to be better than a good normal microphone.

After all they are not universally used where quality is needed, only where there are high ambient noise level such as those found in vehicles and similar, and high reproduction of the full vocal range is not needed.

Growly's post confirms that as well. Radio tranceivers have a very limited frequency response.

Speech recognition is a very "hit and miss" technology currently (a kind way of saying it's a usually useless), so doubt that a throat mike would improve it, probably the opposite?
