305034 2005-05-18 02:18:00 KOL are the worst ISP I have ever been with. Reminds me of the 90's when you had to redial a million times to get a connection! These are the mail probs I have:

- Takes several attempts to connect
- Get disconnected often when downloading
- Slow transfers, very slow response times
- Their servers often go down.
- Laggy az

Unfortunately they suckered me in with their FAQ that states their service is as good as Xtra, someone should take them to the commerce comishion! As im not a heavy user ill stick out my 3 months... but still would be nice to beable to actually download something.

305035 2005-05-22 11:52:00 I have to agree KOL does remind me of the bad old days of the 90s when getting a good dialup connection mean sacrificing your first born on the altar to Satan... but seriously they have had real problems especially after the switch from xtra to telstra as their upstream provider.

I can't get a proper connection as they don't seem to have set up their Name Server correctly after the switch over last weekend.

They still have an ongoing problem with the Authentication Server getting overloaded at peak times and rejecting new connections - a problem for the past few months between March to May 2005.

I'll give them a few more days to sort their proxies and servers before reporting them to Consumers Magazine and Fair Go :-)

305037 2005-05-22 12:12:00 As the saying goes: Cheap things no good, good things no cheap. What can you expect from KOL? I've been using Xtra dial-up ever since I came to NZ. No problem with them at all, except occasional number busy during midnight when I crawled out of my bed and want to chat.

Cheers :)

305038 2005-06-27 11:20:00 Xtra internet was very reliable (if a bit overpriced) when I was with them, but the times I rang their helpdesk, it was a bit of a lucky dip. I've encountered really intelligent technicians a couple of times who solved my problems in no time, I have encountered the person who seems only able to read the standard script & not solve any technical problems, and I've enountered the indian immigrant that was probably hired because of their level of knoledge, but they have such a thick accent that I can't understand them. 305039 2005-09-20 13:40:00 Dear Forum members

I am a subscriber to KOL, which majority of you continue to rubbish. I have not had any problems with them at all. What are you all whining about? Are you all just generally dissatisfied with your current life? I think they are a great service to us all who cannot afford broadband, great cheap internet connection. For those who have problems with e-mail try to use the web based ones, I think microsoft outlook etc sucks!

As for connections, its been a breeze.

305041 2005-09-23 09:15:00 You agree with insults directed at forum users because they don't consider KOL to be as great as you do?

Me thinks some one has a bit of a complex about being stuck on dial-up.

305042 2005-09-23 12:01:00 You may like to try Splurge (the ISP, not the wonder stuff in Buggsy Malone).
Unlimited for $9.95/month if you pay by credit card for 3 months in advance. Used to be Auckland only, now nationwide. Virtually no connection problems, no disconnection problems. I think they have a 3hrs-per-session cut-off which would be limiting for big downloaders. Downloads around 5 KBs.
