305023 2005-01-29 05:40:00 *Sparky* has 3 posts. All of them hawking KOL, including resurrecting one thread from months ago.

I get the feeling he might have more of a vested interest, it's probably Henry returned under a nom de plume.

305024 2005-02-01 01:00:00 I see on KOLs website they have got their server problems fixed. I have to be honest and say that I am getting a good service at the moment. I am downloading and surfing at the same time.. :) I have yet to try it at peak time but will do that later in the week when I'm not working. I have always had replies to my questions. I am having an email problem with them at the moment . Their concept Mail tells some recipients of my emails that they cannot reply because my email address "is not know here".... I don't understand that one but I have sent an email to the Postmaster at Concept Mail and hopefully I get a reply. I will weather KOL out for another month and take it on a monthly basis. Thanks all for your replies and suggestions, much appreciated. ollieogg (6593)

True,but where would it end?
One of the best parts of ICQ has gone due to a takeover by ladies of the night. ;)

305028 2005-02-11 11:06:00 Currently connected at 54,600 (aparently, according to moon phaze) to KOL and it's.. Well --- It's actually not that bad quite honestly.

I experience infuriating responses to my logging in sometimes --- USERNAME AND PASSWORD NOT VALID ON SYSTEM. Come on! It starts working again (albiet at transfer speeds approaching crimlnally slow)..!

I find that once it does let me on, even for a brief second, I HANG UP and redail to get a bit quicker out of it.

However - MSN MESSENGER and P2P networking are still not up to the mark - Constant logouts for no reason and still takes so long to get into MSN HOTMAIL that I give up and never see my 8 new messages unless it happens to be three in the morning (low traffic time I guess?!)

Also - KOL goes *not* kick you out after 3 hours as reported previously. I left my computer doing NOTHING... Not one single byte was sent back an forth other than usual server handshaking over a fifteen hour period - And I was still on line... Scary really - I would have actually have prefered that "bandwidth" to go to some poor old suffering Kiwi OnLine customer down the road...!

graffix@kol.co.nz (their POP / SMTP is working a bit better now tho - Only take a minute to find server and 90% of the time sends and receives. The other 10% get's som damn confusing on my OUTLOOK that I have to remove all OUTBOX entries by moving them into SENT and then FORWARD them all...!)

That speed reading has nothing at all to do with your true data transfer speed, nor your ISP.

You've said its "not that bad" then proceeded to bag it for the rest of your post. If you have to be on at midnight to get decent performance out of it then it's a waste of time.

NZers have this moth to a flame urge to just get the cheapest thing they can wrap their mitts around, then sit and ***** when it sucks, when a few dollars more could give them the same product 10 x better. It's why the Warehouse succeeds.

305030 2005-02-15 09:40:00 All I can say is KOL kiwionline is the most useless ISP on the Planet.

I have not been able to download emails for 2 weeks, but I can access them in a webmail client. My OUTLOOK test works fine.

It has been 2 weeks of this and KOL can't solve.

OK Mandy the manager, Philipp at Palmerston North Call Centre, the Leauge of Nations at KOL - no one knows how to fix my OUTLOOK problem BUT they do blame TELECOM for the badwidth problem.Even "Magic the one legged dissapearing Act" has no answer.

OK Helen C, Tau H, Bill, George M, Rod S, Mission E, Contact E, Air N, Pacific S, Xtra, Whoosh, Orcon, don't bother going with KOL or even remotely contempalting connectivity. CHEAP PRICES FOR ISP SERVICES DON'T MEAN CONSUMER MAG IS CORRECT or the GREY HAIRED WONDER at CM is a KNOW ALL!!

305031 2005-04-12 02:47:00 i've been with them for a few months now at $5.79 per mth six month flat rate (that doesn't give access between 6 and 10pm only) ..top connection speed is 45 ..but usually 34 -38 ..sometimes 24 -28 ..and access is never guarranteed with probably 80% chance of dial-up connection ev'ry time ..when it's bad IT'S VERY BAD...and can deny username or fail to respond in timely fashion AGAIN AND AGAIN ...i would say it's ok for an ad hoc surfer who doesn't NEED the web every time he/she tries ...as value for the money paid ..but for someone doing on-line auctions or business activity it is worth than useless due to the unreliability of connection... :-( spiker (6599)
305032 2005-05-15 06:53:00 I joined KOL 6 weeks ago..first week was great, then they crashed for a day or 2..you'd think if they valued their customers they would have sent us an email aplogising & outlining the problems they were encountering, but nothing!!...I sent them emails & did manage to get a week free out of them...however I feel it should have been a month as they did not fulfill their promise of unlimited internet that month....their connection is not reliable, as with other users I constantly have trouble getting connected: 64 failed calls last month!!!...error 629...error 691...& lately error 720 [any KOL customers will be very familiar with these] The last week has just been a shambles, they crashed on thursday & I have had major troubles getting connected ever since...74 failed calls this month!!! & we're only 2 weeks in...it is taking an average of 5 attempts to get connected at the moment, & then you quite often get disconnected half way through an email.. when they are having problems you haven't got a ****show of getting through to their helpline,, although funnily enough you can get through on the line to sign up for a new connection!!!...they didn't seem to like that!!.....I think as someone else stated they've got too big too quickly, without having the systems in place to back it up...however I don't think it'll be a problem for them because after this week I don't think they'll have any customers left...I've got 2months to go on my subscription but I'm going to bail on them 'cause quite frankly their connection is crap!!, & the aggravation of having to put up with it isn't worth it for $1 a month....IF YOU'RE THINKING OF JOINING KIWI ON LINE , DON'T BOTHER IT STINX....

if any others have had problems with kol please voice them, so others may be warned....I was starting to think the problem was with my own PC untill I found this thread
