It's like, take this trust me, it's safe, it will work on your system, there are no special instructions. You should let people have the opportunity to read about a file for themselves by linking to the download page or adding instruction in your post. The other problem I have with it, happens when the link is broken and the url doesn't give a very descriptive name so that an alternative can be easily found. Is it that difficult to dissect the URL and go to the original page? http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com That took all of my brain power right there. |

Sometimes dissecting the URL as you've suggested isn't much help as the site may just be a file host (this is very common) and may contain absolutely no information about the file at all. The site for the file may have been somewhere completely different, and undeterminable from the file link given. Mike. |

| 305329 | 2004-12-19 06:48:00 | I agree with that Murray and the other thing that peeves me off is when people don't give credit to the poster who originally supplied information on something useful that has not become well known . In this case Metla posted a link to this program one or two weeks ago and it would have been courteous for noone to have acknowledged that . As Murray said, you are not the only one that does it, so it's not a personal dig at you . hmmm . . . Thats a bit harsh, chances are I discovered the program after it was mentioned on Pressf1 some time in the past,Infact i'm 99% positive that is how i came to know about that particuler file . . . . . . What i do find amusing is when i see people mimicking entire posts i have made in the past (with the original info butchered half the time) . . . One i had a chuckle at the other day started with . . . . . "i read somewhere" . . . . Yeah no kidding, you read it a week ago when i posted it . . . . lmao . As for the linking to programs, The only guideline i would suggest is that the person states whether they have used it or not, I see a link to Google results for file recovery programs as a poor move . |

Not if you haven't used a specific programme, at least it points to information . When someone had a similar problem, on the old forum a wee while back, I couldn't remember the name of an image recovery programme I used at least a year back . So I linked to searches with the most likely canditates, it's then up to the individual to decide or ask more questions based on the info received . That blimmin programme's name and it's whereabouts is still bugging me though :@@: I suspect it's gone to a paid version with a slight name change . |
