I've spent the last hour and three-quarters trying to get this **** game up and running, done all the crazy stuff through Steam, and now it won't let me play offline, and tells me I have to download a 30MB file called Deathmatch when I click on "Play Half-Life". I am going out of my tree with this. Can anyone tell me what I need to do just to play the game I just spent $90.00 on. PLEASE! Cheers Tim |

| 304589 | 2004-12-17 19:21:00 | I downloaded DeathMatch two weeks ago. Have not got around to playing it. It seems to be a free add-on to Half Life 2. Actually, I think I will play it now and report my findings eh? |

| 304590 | 2004-12-17 19:36:00 | Half Life 2 DeathMatch is a Death Match like Counter Strike: Source, but you are an individual, no team mates, and you can use the weapons from the Half Life 2 game such as that magnetic gun. You would probably keep being bothered to download it if you refuse to. I think you should download as it is free, but if you wish not to play it, just leave it there. Maybe look out for a magazine with a feature about Half Life 2, they might have the file on their CD. Any by the way, Half Life 2 can not be played offline, so don't bother bringing your computer or laptop to the bach over the summer if there is no internet connection. |

| 304592 | 2004-12-17 20:31:00 | Right click on the game as listed in steam and select properties,then see how much of the installation you actually have,after installing hl2 i only had 83% and the game would launch and then hang. I set it to automaticly update,and ended up having to download Counterstrike as well....and in a strange move once i did so HL2 repoterted itself at 100% and ran fine...... There is also a file validator at the steam website which will scan your install and replace any messed up files. Also keep in mind that Steam and the hl2.exe need full access to the internet in order to run,if they can't get past your firewall they they won't do squat. However,Contrary to what has been posted,The game runs fine with no internet access after it has been activated and patched via steam. |
