| 306027 | 2004-12-20 19:56:00 | After much consideration, Im debating switching to the 3hrs a month plan with Ihug for $4.95p.m. so that my family can keep their existing @ihug.co.nz email address (They are not willing to part with it). Im thinking I may simply go with Xtra and save myself that extra $10 a m onth... Heres a long story cut short: I was on the 128kbps up/down plan, paying something like $40 to both Ihug and Telecom. I rang Ihug and said "put me onto the new Telecom plans" and they told me I had to ring Telecom and do it myself. I got busy and it got put off for about two months I rang telecom and got put onto the 2mbps "account". This was great until I rang Ihug and they told me they dont do that 2mbps plan and there could be issues. I told them to swap me over a billing month later to the bliink service. It worked though... I was just paying something like $70 to Telecom and $40 to Ihug for that month. Now I want to go back to the 2mbps plans because it turns out this is only 128kbps upload on their bliink service, which is what I want more of (So when visitors to my site check out the wallpapers/photos it doesnt take forever). Whats the best way of going about getting myself 2mbps from here? Ive never been a fan of monopolies but wouldnt Xtra be $10 cheaper because we have our phone account with Telecom? Cheers Chill. |

Before the rant'ers' arrive, I'm going to suggest Xtra, mainly for the service and support they have given me. Don't know why others complain -maybe I haven't got a red dot next to my account :cool:They are around whenever I need them, 24/7. As for your question, from what I understand, Xtra would not be any cheaper or more expensive than other ISPs. As long as your phone account is with Telecom, you should be getting the $10 for the Jetstream connection. However, with the current affairs of UBS, etc. I would be inclined to go with Xtra. Other ISPs will not be lowering prices much (even if they do) due to the low marginal profit Telecom is allowing them to make. And if anything new comes out, guess who will get it first........ |
