Paradise
Clear
Actrix
Orcon
iHug

I think anyone smaller than them is getting a bit dodgy. Xtra intentionally left off the list.

305790 2004-12-20 02:15:00 im on the unlimited 16.95 plan and its ok - i never seem to get a speed below 40kb and i have managed on my newer computer to get 52kb. I dont use their email so i would not know about their spam filtering etc noone (22)
305791 2004-12-21 01:06:00 I also never use their e-mails etc, I'm just concerned with how reliable and fast their speeds are.
So I guess Slingshot's $16.95 per month is the best deal, if you only make local calls. I just don't like that 3 months in advance payment thing, I know Xtra doesn't have that.

305792 2004-12-21 01:48:00 I had it for two weeks, when I had a problem at a time when they don't have a help line I found it irritating,on top of that tech assistance is $2 a minute.

Went back to xtra.

305793 2004-12-21 02:04:00 I would strongly wecomment FRESHER - They are a small subsidiary of iSERVE, and I have had exceptional service for the last two years (they started up two years ago). The only downside is they only have service in the Wellington (04) region and you have to pay if you want phone support - $0.99c/min." target="_blank">fresher.net.nz. The only downside is they only have service in the Wellington (04) region and you have to pay if you want phone support - $0.99c You can reliably expect at least 52KBits/sec every time you dial, and they will usually answer email support in less than 5 minutes. $15 for 150 hours/month, paid one month in advance. They define a month as 28 days. My average download speed is usually about 5.6KB/sec. You also get 5 email addresses, one of which has spam filtering. (you can add it to the others for $1/month/address).

305795 2004-12-21 05:54:00 Several reasons for NOT dealing with Slingshot:-
1] Usually require payment 3 months in adavance.
2] Very poor help service & charge $2 a minute for phone calls, even if the fault is theirs.
3] Always blame Telecom if there is a fault.
4] On Broadband the transmission is erratic.
I now deal with Xtra, the service is excellent, and they can't pass the buck.

305797 2004-12-21 06:18:00 I am on Slingshot broadband. My brother (who is now also on Slingshot broadband) was and my dad is on Slingshot dial-up. They both found dial-up very good and had no problems.

The $9.95 per month plan is for if you've signed up for tolls with them as well and will spend more than $10 a month on tolls with them then the internet is $9.95. Otherwise it's $16.95 a month.

Technical assistance via 0900 might be annoying, if it weren't for the fact that you can email them (they're quite fast responding via email to technical issues), and you can usually get hold of tech-support via the 0800 number anyway ;) (www.pressf1.co.nz)

I've had no problems using broadband through them and would recommend them. The 3 months in advance only applies to their dial-up plans.
