| 305640 | 2004-12-20 01:01:00 | It sounds to me like a bad sector -likely to spread. I once had a hard drive with about 80% bad sector. I have no idea how I survived that far. But it was exactly as you described -format terminated. In the end I spent some money and got a second hand replacement. Like metla mentioned, you can no longer trust the drive anymore. Either back up heaps (often) or start saving for a replacement drive. Anytime now... you can be saying bye bye! | ~sy~ (95) | ||
| 305641 | 2004-12-20 04:04:00 | As a last gasp effort you could try this, which worked once for a hard drive that would not boot. Was using XP so plug'n'play may be required for this to work. Turn the PC off and disconnect power. Open the case and pull the power connector out of the rear of the hard drive. Close the case and power the machine up again with the HD disconnected. Turn machine off again, open the case after turning off at wall, and reconnect power connector to HD. Close the case again, reboot and see if the drive is now available. |
