306421 2004-12-21 15:59:00 For a while now while I've been on Internet I have been disconnected at least once a week(because of what I thought was the 0867 system) then one day I went to ring up my Internet provider and found a lot of noise, sounding like clicks and bangs, while this could one option, I am at the moment beginning to think it is coming from the use of "Internet Explorer" So far for a few weeks now I have avoided using that and found I have never lost my disconnection.

Has anybody lost there connection while been on Internet?
Do you get noise on the line?
or could it be from "Internet Explorer" most times the use has been active, it not as if I go off somewhere and come back and find the connection has been disconnected (due to some setting)

Cute office sign, says:
Before I started working here I drank, smoked, and used foul language for no reason at all. But thanks to this job, I now have a reason.

306422 2004-12-21 19:49:00 Have you tried to call Telecom (123) and ask for a line check to be done for quality? A poor line can lead to repeated disconnections, although you said this only happens about once a week? Jen (38)
306423 2004-12-21 19:53:00 yes my connection drops every now and again
things to watch for that may cause a bad connection

telephone extension cables (like the one that runs from the telephone jack around the room to the pc :yuck: )
Faulty extension phone or answer phone
Too many phones on the same line
Sky connection
call waiting (to disable while on the internet add *52 to the front of your isp number)
Ring your ISP ask them to do a line test for noise, mine can

306424 2004-12-21 21:01:00 the tick in your phone line is the fence next to your phone line shorting out, i have this problem alot, because i live in the country side, sometimes i cannot even get on the net due to this problem, im using my external modem that doesnt seem to disconnect as much as my internal modem........... i have tried ringing telecom/xtra and they basicly tell me that its my problem and tell my to go away  :annoyed: Prescott (11)

What do you expect Telecom to do? It's not THEIR fence.

Telecom's five step fence check (www.telecom.co.nz)

306427 2004-12-22 16:44:00 No! the noise problem is intermittent and it only lasts a day, Telecom have been twice, in two years, after the problem has cleared, they like blaming my equipment,

Apart from that problem, since I stopped using Internet explorer I have had no problem and that used to be once a week, even when there was no noise on the phone line .

It's bit of a bugger now I like using or prefer to use Internet explorer to view HTML documents, but have gone to Mozilla or firefox for internet browsing, so it is hard to make one the default browser,

Internet explorer is better for Internet browsing because you don't get "text-eye whiplash" . so much .

306428 2004-12-22 17:04:00 I used to get strange noise on the line when I was on dial-up, when I was put onto broadband the line was cleared up for it and the problem never occurred again. maxpower (6618)

306430 2004-12-22 17:21:00 I hate IE!

I've been using mozilla for ages now and can't seem to get used to IE any more!

I like opening multiple windows and it is much easier to do this with the tabs in mozilla.
