306379 2004-12-30 20:50:00 Three basic precautions:

Do not use thermal paste when attaching a heatsink to a CPU if the heatsink already has thermal compound on it!

Slight difference of opinion here... I would remove the thermal compound (looks like a fat square of sellotape or similar), and use something else like Arctic Silver.
Reason being when its time to remove the heatsink it's much easier.
Errr, no, not everybody removes the heatsink everyday, but if you are building one yourself, my guess is you will want to fiddle with different heatsinks/cpu's etc.

I think that Greg was likely advising to either leave the thermal pad on or remove it if one is going to use thermal compound but not use both together. That can sometimes be a bit confusing for new builders. ;)

306383 2005-01-02 13:00:00 Wow, that is a lot of information!! Thank you all for that. I am sure that I will be able to build it easy with all your tips and suggestions. The guides are all good also. I am starting to think the hardest part will be picking the hardware. I will take a look at the sites that have been suggested. Thank you all :D

Those sites linked to are quite helpful, particulary the site that E|im posted with its pictures. It is interesting how they installed the floppy and CD drives before the mobo, I have not come across that before.

Be aware that much of the WaterWheel site is rather outdated, particularly with the hardware information. The actual building tutorial is OK though.

And yes, the hardest part is picking the hardware. ;)
