To get anything acceptable in quality required it to be set on "fine" and it took a long time to print a page on that setting. On "normal", the output was not useable for commercial quality (ok for home use I guess) The fax side of thing was great, in functionality. The printer was hopeless at photo's, just a waste of ink. |

The samples in the shop were nice... similar to the epson sample. To be honest I haven't tried printing photos on photo stock with the Brother - it's not what I bought it for. I simply wanted an adequate "all in one". In my opinion, Brother is second cousin to Canon, HP, Epson if you wanted to print photos. As for the demo photos shown in shops: you could spend a long time and a lot of ink trying to produce a picture as good as those. I prefer to use the photo kiosks to make prints. GF - you may be right as to the longevity of the inks in the Brother; but then I previously had an Epson which could keep you poor. (It got to live the rest of its life in the garage and I went back to my 'boring black' laser). I figured that at least it should be possible to refill the Brother carts, whereas the new Epsons have some 'special ink' and a damm chip on the cartridge that tells the printer how much ink is left - all of which sounds a bit difficult :( |
