306177 2004-12-21 17:42:00 Just grab the soldering iron and do a mod job on the fan connector, as mentioned earlier the third wire is only for monitoring and doesnt supply power to the fan. It wont matter what plug you have as long as it will plug into something in your case, if you cant find a spare plug go down to DSE and buy a cheap fan. Pete O'Neil (6584)
306178 2004-12-21 18:49:00 Anyway, I took the plug cover off and plugged the metal contacts straight into the header. I powered on my machine, the BIOS came up and starting POSTing, but the fan didn't come on. I powered off the machine after 10 seconds because I didn't want to risk damaging my card. The stock cooler would come on no more than 3 seconds after turning the machine. I have emailed Arctic about this, hopefully they will be able to provide an adequete solution.

With 3 pins on the video card to choose from you probably got the wrong pair. Odd that the cooler isn't compatible with Gigbyte. Arctic do mention Asus but give the impression that the NV cooler has 3 wires.

"We use ATIs respectively NVIDIAs standard power plugs. Asus is unfortunately not following ATIs/NVIDIAs solutions and therefore our plug doesn't fit. You can either cut both plugs and connect the wires correspondingly or you can also get 12 Volt power directly from the PSU. There you have to connect the wires as follows: black with black and red (VGA) with yellow (PSU). The yellow cable from the VGA is an RPM signal, that is not needed. "

306179 2004-12-21 19:11:00 Gigabyte must have several 6800 GTs. Picture of one with 2 wire fan header here

306180 2004-12-21 20:55:00 It's a GV-N68T256DH I believe. Has a strange cooling system which looks effective but it really isn't. I managed to get it working though.
How I fixed it: I got a 3 pin --> molex adaptor. I plugged my 2 pin connector into that (had to cut off a bit of plastic to make it work,) plugged it into the power supply, and turned on my computer. It worked, and now I'm getting 38 degrees idle temps! W00T! Amazing cooler, 10/10. Would have been a pain free installation if not for Gigabyte's non standard cooling system plug (midget sized 3 pin). Thanks for helping, everyone. :)
