306470 2004-12-21 20:08:00 Silly question for the day as per the title. If I buy a PC with a DVD writer instead of a combo drive, is it able to write to CDs as well? :o Oggy (5399)
306471 2004-12-21 20:16:00 Yes DVD writers can write to CDs. I would say it is almost impossible to get one that can't these days.
By the way it wasn't a stupid question.

306473 2004-12-21 21:34:00 it will be just a bit slower though - but nothing to cry over seeming all the other stuff a dvdrw can do noone (22)
306474 2004-12-21 23:57:00 Slower? Why?

Every DVD writer I've ever used burns CDs at 52x....

306475 2004-12-22 00:57:00 Quick answer = Yes you can

However -it shouldn't be any slower. I would think most of them are capable of burning at 52x.

Come on George, are you sure your software isn't just stuck reporting 52x for everything? Most DVD writers do CDs at 32 - 40x max with some able to do 48x max. If you've got a DVD writer that will do 52x CDs give the model number.

306477 2004-12-22 01:35:00 My DVD/CDRW is supposed to do 48x, I think, but doesn't get much above 32x for CD's. My old CDR did 48x consistently if asked until..... RIP :badpc: Murray P (44)
306478 2004-12-22 01:41:00 I had a cd writer (Aopen) that reported its speed as 124x when burning,It made the loudest hells gates opening noise i have ever heard emit from a comp.....I stood well over the other side of the room when it was in action...... Metla (12)
306479 2004-12-22 21:46:00 124x - is the cd still there i would think it would have either snaped or just dissapeared noone (22)
