2004-12-26 06:28:00 | I have downloaded the latest driver but it still does the same thing. I just got this MFC for Christmas. I just installed it. when i tried to test the scanner this error message comes up: MFC-210C USB cannot be found please make sure your device is ON and interface cable is properly connected to your computer (CC027) I tried the connection and they are all right and the multifunction is turned on. the Installation Diagnostics that came after I installed the printer this is what it says function port connection installation conditions status Printer BRUSB: OK Ready Scanner BRRSM OK Ready PC-Fax Sending BRUSB: OK Ready anything I click on the control centre comes up with the same message. (except the device management), I can print from word, so the printer is working. So it is only the Scanner and anything that is in the control centre that is not working. I also installed a USB card before I installed the printer because our computer didn't have any but we have a mouse that is using one of the 3 ports so I don't think that is the problem do you know what can I do.

2004-12-26 20:23:00 | did you install it with the usb cable plugged in ?.................DONT........you need to install the software with the cable unplugged and at some point in the install it'll say 'make sure the printer is plugged in and turned on'.......... | drcspy (146) | |
2005-08-29 04:30:00 | I recently had the same problem with a dc--110c. I tried everything, even took the thing back for the suplier to check the machine all to no avail. Eventually in a flash of sheer intuition I decided to check dep (data execution prevention, contol panel/system/advanced/performance/data exicution prevention) I had set this to turn on DEP for all programs except those I select. I had done this to run Pinnacle Sudio9. It would seem that you have to either name the scanner program or go back to Widoze default setting, turn on DEP for essential windoze programs and services only. | Barnzy (6015) | |
2005-08-30 03:51:00 | Maybe too late for this, but better late than never. I had just recently installed the MFC620CN, just a model up from the 210C although, I have that printer too (so why am I rambling on)... Anyways, I screwed up the installation, because I never realised that the install wizard actually selected the drivers automatically, so when I was confronted with the Select your product dialog, I instantly browsed for my Brother printer/scanner and the automation took over and installed the wrong product. So to clean it up, you could not repair/reinstall, I discovered this when I tried, it will duplicate the Scanner/Printer so you must remove it manually yourself. Best thing would be, remove the printer and the printer drivers, to remove the printer drivers in XP, when inside the Printer folder, right-click inside it at an empty whitespace and choose Setup Server? (going by memory here), then their should be a driver tab you choose, from there just select your printer driver and remove it. Now to remove the Scanner driver, we must go into System Properties (WinKey + Pause/Break) or right-click My Computer and select Properties, Then the Hardware tab? and then Device Manager. Look for Imaging Devices, expand it by clicking on the + sign, then select your Scanner and remove it from here. Remember if it's doubled up, remove all that relate to it. Now insert your CD, follow the install, let it run and select your drivers for you. When that's done, restart and hopefully your printer and scanner should be ok. If this doesn't work, then it could be a problem with the cable and interface being used, make sure the settings for the interface are correct. Cheers, KK

2005-08-30 04:18:00 | If you XP SP2 then there could be an update for the printer. SP2 firewall blocked the USB port on some printers - brother being one of them. Have a look on the Brother site for the download fix. Thats what I had to do. | berryb (99) | |
2008-11-05 17:38:00 | I had the same problem, I phoned to tech support, and they give me a good solution: in the regedit (start->run->regedit), go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Brother -> 2.0 -> MFC-8860DN LAN -> DeviceINfo change the value EnableWia to 1
