| 307179 | 2004-12-24 09:10:00 | Hi, I have a toshiba tecra 8100, which has been running perfectly for years now, until the other day when the backlight started turning off randomly (like when you shut the lid, or press the little button). Would any one know why? I have tried changing power settings in xp, but no help. The only way to turn it back on it to press the little button that gets pressed when u shut the lid. Daniel |

You could, I guess, look at having it repaired - however as it is an old laptop it probably isn't worth it. The job would be ~$100 minimum, and that's like 1/4 the value of the laptop. I think you *may* have to put up with it. |

Daniel get some duct tape to cover the little button, worth a shot.how old is it? check out trademe for some new screens for your laptop, you could get a deal. |

What i was meaning b4 is that i have to press the button once for the backlight to turn back on. I can't get a new screen as its a company laptop. I think it might just be hadit. Daniel |

| 307184 | 2005-01-04 21:23:00 | issue is caused by corrosion on the plug into the FL Inverter . If you take the screen bezel off the FL inverter is the 4" X 1/2" card under the LCD. replug the LH plug a few times to scrape clean the pins. If you have thew opportunity, take it in to a Toshiba service agent..they should fix it for you at no cost. |
