307091 2004-12-24 04:21:00 Hi all, Im after a program that will search all files on my hard drive for a search term, not the file name, but actually if that file contains the search term, say if I am looking for "an apple a day" a prgram to search all .txt .php etc files for the phrase, does such a thing exist please????

TIA

307092 2004-12-24 05:06:00 If you run Windows XP you already have a search function that will do the job.

Click START, SEARCH, ALL FILES & FOLDERS. Second box down asks for a word or phrase in the file. If you don't know the file name use *.* or *.txt or *.doc or whatever.

Most versions of Windows include this function.

307095 2004-12-24 06:29:00 There was a thread on this topic recently, just did a search 2 weeks then 1 month, but couldn't come up with it. You might have better luck.

(Mutters about lousy search feature.)

apparently the index for the forum search function is being reindexed, so wont be fully functioning till maybe tomorrow?

/me points at GoogleDesktopSearch's need for a spare 500MB.
