306881 2004-12-23 07:45:00 Well i've got my broadband up and running.
Just a couple of questions.I am connected at 10Mbps. Is that good, bad or indifferent.
Is there anywhere I can find out how my download tally is getting on. It doesn't realy matter as I have no usage cap, but I would like to know.
I had one problem that I wasn't warned about. When I got it set up I could not receive or send e-mail. Struggled with it all afternoon and eventualy found out my modem had a built in firewall that was on by default. It didn't get on with win xp. Switched it off and all was well.

306883 2004-12-23 08:06:00 10MB/s  good thing you don't have a cap.

What was clashing with the router's firewall, I'd be enclined to keep it up rather than nix it, besides it should be compatible with XP. You'll probably have to allow SMPTP on port 25 and POP3 on port 110 and UDP on port ? if you use it. What does it say in the instruction, what brand and model is it?

You'll probably find a usage meter on your ISP's site which, will probably bear no relation to Telecom's meter if your ISP is not them/Xtra

306884 2004-12-23 08:23:00 I am connected at 10Mbps. Is that good, bad or indifferent.Hmm ... 10 Mbps doesn't sound right. What do you get from this speed test here (www.nzadsl.co.nz) for the 500K test?

You should be able to monitor your usage via Telecoms monitor here (www.telecom.co.nz)

306885 2004-12-23 08:27:00 10 Mbps with no cap, where do I sign up and how much does it cost? Raikyn (6293)
306886 2004-12-23 08:42:00 That 10Mbps is the speed between the Network Card and adsl router. actual line speed could be obtained from the router somehow, through the web setup interface perhaps. pleasehelp (882)
306887 2004-12-23 08:43:00 10 Mbps is not the speed to the internet, it is the speed from the modem to the computer (I take it you have an external router). Go to www.jetstreamgames.co.nz/speed

Your download speed should be relative to the plan you paid for.

306888 2004-12-23 08:59:00 Now now people, at no stage did he state which ISP, Telco or even WAN technology he was using.

In any case, he could be using cable, which can quite happily go at 10mbps, thank you very much.

306889 2004-12-23 09:07:00 If there really was a 10Mbps plan with 20GB or more (unlimited qualifies :D) cap, for less than ~$250 / month. I would be on it in a second.

But I doubt it sincerely.

306890 2004-12-23 09:07:00 No cable in Rotorua AFAIK.

Why not 100MB/s rather than 10MB/s then, most cards and routers can interface at that? Plus Telecom have trialed higher speeds so are cabable in some situation and conditions.
