306815 2004-12-22 10:05:00 Tried to install Clean 5 today, but partway through it stopped and said that it couldn't find Regedit.I've also been into Start/Run and typed in regedit but that also says it can't be found. After a search I've found Regedit.exe and that opens the registry page ok.Clues please as to what's going on?
Still using ME,800Mhz. :badpc:

306816 2004-12-22 10:33:00 not sure if this will work but maybe worth a try
before installing Clean go to a dos prompt and type this in

path=c:\path to regedit ( for example, guessing here, path=C:\windows\system32)

that just sets up a search path for programs to use

306817 2004-12-22 20:35:00 hmmm... try regedt32 Edward (31)
306818 2004-12-23 07:47:00 Go to start>Find>Files or Folders and enter regedit*.exe.

Search C\: and you should find the file in C:\Windows. If it is anywhere else, copy it to C\:Windows and see if it will then run from Start>Run>Regedit.

Start>Run>Regedit should find it wherever it is, but sometimes it helps if it is in the right folder.

The * after regedit is to find any variants such as regedit32 just in case, but that filename doesn't appear in my W98 or W2000 computers so I don't know if it exists anywhere. Somebody else may enjoy different mileage.

306820 2004-12-23 07:56:00 I don't think you need DOS Neil, that is getting overcomplicated.

Just find where it is and if it is not in C\:Windows, copy it to there and try again. Files do sometimes end up in the wrong places and since you know your copy works there's no harm in placing a copy where it belongs. If it is already in C:\Windows, try putting a copy in C:\Windows\System.

Once you get it to run from the start menu then other programs should find it OK. Then rename any other copies as regedit.ex_ and see if it all still works. If it does, delete the unwanted copies.

306821 2004-12-23 08:17:00 Thanks Billy.I found it in C/Windows/Options/Cabs,and have copied it to C/Windows.Now Start/Run/Regedit works, which it never has done before!!
Do I need to change the exe on the one in Cabs?
