307280 2004-12-25 04:49:00 I can receive, extract and install any form of emailed file so please send to my posted email address and I'll try it tomorrow morning.

I'm off to a family dinner right now.

Cheers

307281 2004-12-25 09:36:00 Spyware blaster has an option to disable all Flash displays, do you have this program on your computer? If so check that you do not have the option ticked. I will check back if you need more help. zqwerty (97)
307282 2004-12-25 20:15:00 Did you try Firefox?

Ive never had a single issue with it in Firefox (Admittedly I usually disable flash with the flash-block plugin). Its about a 5MB Download for Firefox & about an 800kb download for the Flash Plugin.

Try Firefox.... Grab it, install it, and goto any page that has a Flash animation (I know qmb.co.nz does).
It'll point you to the download link for Flash for Firefox

Restart your browser (Computer reboot not required) and you're away laughing :-)

307283 2004-12-25 23:17:00 Thanks Zqwerty, but I don't have any such program installed or active. I have very dull (read safe) surfing habits so don't have spyware or malware infections. I keep spybot and Adaware up to date but they never find anything critical.

I am back on the job again today and still looking for a solution.

Can anybody tell me the file name for the Flash executable, or where it installs itself please? I can't even confirm that the installation is actually taking place until I can go see what is on my HDD.

Cheers

307285 2004-12-26 00:20:00 On my W98 comp, C\windows\system\macromed\flash - need to allow Active X to run as well. Should find with a search for "flash"

307286 2004-12-26 01:51:00 Right.

Thanks Peter,

I found flash.ocx and swflash.ocx in C:\Windows\System\Macromed on my W98 box, and the same two files in C:\Winnt\System32\Macromed on my W2000 box.

So, it appears that the installation has taken place but perhaps the necessary registry changes needed to access Flash are missing.

I don't want to change browsers just to get a simple flash program running, that simply avoids the issue of why it doesn't operate as it should, and given the nature of the problem, I am not 100% convinced that a different browser would make any difference.

It seems to me that it is a faulty or incomplete install that is preventing it from working, not a basic incompatability between Flash and IE 6.

I think I might fire up one of my other three w2k machines and see if their configuration is different. Unforthunately none of those are currently set up to send or receive email otherwise I would have simply emailed the cards to my self and downloded to another computer.

More information will follow so watch this space.

Cheers

307287 2004-12-26 02:17:00 Even though I have the required files, flash doesn't work on this either. Gave up going to the TVNZ news site, as it was always prompting me to D/L Flash player. Set Active X controls to enable but still no joy.

307289 2004-12-26 04:51:00 ....... ...... .......If you're _really_ not a Firefox fan, then you could try Opera perhaps?! Chilling_Silence (9)
