2004-12-23 07:12:00 | I was checking my e-mails through outlook express nothing out of the ordinary...... Pop! a cloud of smoke was emmited from the back of the monitor along with the strong smell of burn electricals, I turned it straight off by the wall plug. It was brought at a pc company factory sale at around october last year for $150 at the time I thought it was new as it wasn't stated otherwise Whats happened to.. monitors are made to last for 5+ years? | 306851 | 2004-12-23 07:18:00 | That is a bit of a shame ... although the date of manufacture should of given you a clue that it might not of been new, guess hardware faults can hit at anytime. Maybe a good time to check out a LCD instead ... prices are getting pretty reasonably now :D

2004-12-23 07:22:00 | Sometimes you can ge a bad batch of any component. My current monitor last two weeks before it went *bang* Got it fixed under warranty and have had no probs for the last year and a half. If yours is still under warranty send it back and get it fixed, but looking at the manufacture date I would guess not :( sorry

2004-12-23 07:25:00 | Suggest you get it checked out by a reliable servicing shop - monitors can either be very cheap or very dear to fix - no point in buying a new one if it only will cost $30 to fix! | johnd (85) | |
2004-12-23 07:30:00 | What's the best way to find a reliable servicing shop?? Word of mouth, trial and error :help: | Raikyn (6293) | |
2004-12-23 07:40:00 | wow! my old computer's screen is a good 11 years old and still going strong O_O anyway, for finding a good shop, word of mouth is best. i don't see how trial and error could work relatively efficantly, since you've only got 1 bung monitor. maybe some people from your part of the country can give some recommendations

2004-12-23 07:46:00 | I brought it from the pc company factory sale unfortunatly the warranty for items from the sale was 2 days, trust the pc company to sell something that was manafactured over 2 years before-handI brought it from the pc company factory sale unfortunately the warranty for items from the sale was 2 days, trust the pc company to sell something that was manufactured over 2 years before-hand if Id know I wouldnt have paid $150. Unlucky for me i didn't think to look at the manafacture date via diagnostic software untill about a month after I brought the screen Judging from the large cloud of smoke and the strong lingering smell of burnt components and the fact that the screen makes a loud winning noise while the image distorts and spins around before the screen goes blank leads me to think the problem is unfixable -Jacob

When I switched the voltage from 230 to 110 while it was plugged in they fixed it  |
