2004-12-26 07:54:00 | Hi there, My Xmas present was an Imation Flash 2.00 128MB flash drive! - better than socks!!!! The problem is that even though in 'My Computer' it shows 'Removable drive(H:)' I cant seem to 'copy' or even 'Send to' any files to the Flash drive. It says - 'Copy error: - cant' find specified file'. I am running Windows XP SP2 - which apparenlty should just read the flash drive like a floppy? I am a bit of a computer novice and have no idea what is wrong. Can anyone offer any ideas as to what is wrong pse? Any ideas have to be pretty basic - sorry! :D Lance Hamilton

2004-12-26 08:17:00 | There may be a physical switch on the Flash Drive that needs to be put in the correct position to write to the drive. Have a look for it. WinXP has all the software necessary to run a Flash Drive stock standard.

2004-12-26 08:28:00 | Hi, I agree with zqwerty that it's probably a little toggle switch on the drive that prevents writing but Im surprised you cant copy from the drive. It should work the same as any other drive. I havent seen any flash drives that need drivers for Win2k or XP but they all do for '98 or earlier so you should be OK on that score. An icon should appear in your system tray when you connect, and you just click on this prior to disconnecting so the drive is closed properly before you take it out of the USB port. I presume the USB port works for other things? | Parry (5696) | |
2004-12-26 08:40:00 | When I plug my Flash Drive in, two icons saying removeable drive always appear in My Computer. It is always the first one that is the active removeable drive and the one that I use. | zqwerty (97) | |
2004-12-26 09:00:00 | Occassionally on mine if I use it on others' computers (running XP) then I have to reboot with the unit plugged in. Also, Can you open the drive from 'my computer'. I normally just open it then drag 'n' drop the file onto it.

2004-12-26 21:19:00 | Hi everyone - thanks for replying, Still can't get it to work though! No matter what I try: 'Copy this file' - and I put it to the flash drive or Right mouse click and 'send to' or have both them open and drag the file to the flash drive I get the same thing: A little box appears with: "Error copying file or floder Cannot copy ....:Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name: OK" The files are there alright - just won't copy the blasted thing! Thanks Zqwerty - I have tried the little switch on the side - but that comes back saying the disk is write protected. Any other suggestions? Tks Lance Hamilton
