| 307579 | 2004-12-26 07:12:00 | I went to QMB Computers in Mt Roskill and bought a replacement CD Burner. They said they would take out the old one and put in the new one for $20 + GST. It would take 20 mins. After 30 mins they took me through to the back and said that as my Operating System was 5 yrs old (in fact it is 4 yrs old) they had encountered a problem and I would need to reload my Operating system. When I got home I could only get into Safe Mode and not normal mode. The story from there is a long one and it took a friend of mine, who works in IT, four hours plus to find the problem and fix. The problem was that the drivers for my CD Rom drive and the new CD Burner were incompatible. To fix it he put in a fresh CD Rom drive that he had spare and everything was fine. My friend said that I should have got him to put in CD Burner (which I should have done !!), but I did not want to bother him when I could get done for such a small outlay, especially since I was already in the QMB shop. QMB really just wanted to move things along and apparently did not care that they were leaving me with a big problem. A pity that there are firms out there like this !! :annoyed: |

Am still getting used to the new format ! Still I think it is useful to know which shops give good service. It may be, for all I know, that PressF1 users have had 99% satisfaction from QMB, but perhaps not. Maybe I am expecting too much to think that they should have known that there would be conflict between the drivers. If so I stand to be corrected. :dogeye: I might have to eat "humble pie" (better than soap !!) :D |

The purpose I would have thought,is to beware when purchasing hardware,even from a so called reputable shop. I most certainly will watch for this sort of thing when I go to buy new hardware. |

| 307584 | 2004-12-26 09:05:00 | I don't know much but from what I read here and in PC World, driver conflicts are a pernicious problem. If there is a Big Book of conflicting drivers, then Metla will tell us. But somehow I doubt it. It seems that such problems are only discovered after installation and IT people can't really know until its happened. Doubtless Metla will steam in soon and put us right :badpc: |

Yes thanks for sharing your experinces with QMB with us . That is exactly why I don't 'shop' at price-spy because if you are paying less money, you are paying less for service . Thats why I shop at Ascent . |
