307519 2004-12-26 02:01:00 My computer will lag each second, and when I'm opening a program. Example... When I move the cursor, each second it will pause, then keep going, then pause... etc. Most importantly, it's affecting my sound. The sound card that came with my computer didn't work well, and the sound would pause, or cough, as I put it.

I got a USB Speaker Convertor (essentially a sound card), and that worked alright, but still had a clicking noise, and would get bogged down when I open up a program like Microsoft Word or Excel.

So I am wondering, not only what it is, but is there anything I could do?

Thanks.

307521 2004-12-26 02:40:00 It wasn't always like this... I reformatted (but this happened awhile after I reformatted...).. I haven't changed too much stuff... I installed a few things, but nothing that I would think be causing it, because I'd have it stop running and it would still lag.

I have adaware... Does that take care of spyware?

307522 2004-12-26 03:40:00 Whats your system specs?
How much ram do you have etc?

Have you done a defrag to speed up your computer?

Have you gone to device manager?
Entered into sound and if you have 2 devices giving sound then disable the one you dont want ie if you have onboard sound and an Audigy 2zs sound card you would disable the onboard sound.(Thats what I had to do).

Check to make sure your cables are in all the way not half in/half out on your connections, ie could have come out when moving p.c.

Have you downloaded latetest device drives for your soud device.?

Do you have unnecessary apps running in your system tray slowing your computer down that you dont really need to be in there?
Do you have wallpaper on your desktop eating into your ram?

Have you updated/patched games/programes/apps.etc

Do you have a fiewall, antivirus, anti spyware/adware,run them all one at a time and see if that does anything,oh and of course you would update/patch them as well.
Oh and update/patch windows as well!!! :badpc:

you could try adding some more memory, we had the same sort of problem and when we added some memory it fixed it. download this program to see how much you have got then post back here and give us the specs.

Leave the p.c. have some fun with family/friends and be thankfull for what you have compared to the less lucky people in today's society.

And you know what the best present is....giving your loved ones a big hug/cuddle and telling them you love them, and spending some quality time with them!!! Mum told me!!! :D

And making there favourite meal for breakfast and serving it to them in bed!!!
:D
ps have fun!!!

307526 2004-12-26 05:52:00 I had a similar problem - and about a week later the hard drive packed up totally so I hope it's not the same with you.
