307414 2004-12-25 11:52:00 Whats the laptop brand but usaly no, you dont have to open the laptop apart from a small lid on the bottom on the laptop and as for the ram how do you mean to check if its in there or if your old ram has been removed?

This should tell you how mean RAM chips are in your laptop

307416 2004-12-25 13:02:00 OK what Presario? but i'm around 90% sure that on the bottom of the laptop theres a lid kinda thing with *most likey* 2 scews holding it down thats whrere the ram is.
When u got ur laptop there should have been a manual that came with it, how to get to where the ram is should be in there.

That link works,
Try turning off flashget or any thing like that if your using download mangers.

307419 2004-12-25 20:16:00 Rather than pulling your laptop to bits, a RAM count is normally displayed during startup, or go into Control Panel > System. Under the general tab it will tell you how much RAM is present. It should now show 512 MB (or 524288 KB).

If your machine is still slow, you need to look at what is loading in the background and check it thoroughly for nasties such as viruses and spyware. Post back if you need help with this.

To find out if your new ram is accepted by windows, click start, run,
type in: dxdiag click enter, this will give you the amount of ram,
and a few other things. If it isnt showing 512 the ram either it isn't installed,
or hasnt been found by windows.

I would think a increase from 128 to 512, would have shown some increase
speed.

You may like to look at cleaning out folders, as this can bog down your computer too. Wash and go does to pretty good job of this, and also regscrubzp will clean your registry. keep in mind there is a slight risk
of error, when fiddling with folders and the registry, so back up before
you try these.

good luck,
