| 307360 | 2004-12-25 07:46:00 | First Off, Id like to wish everyone a very merry christmas. and now onto my dilema. the list in my Winxp Home start menu, of frequently used programs, and misteriously Vanished. this is the second strange thing that has happened to me this week. the first was when i loged on,and went into firefox, and all my bookmarks, settings, EVERYTHIGN, was gone and/or reverted to the default. i am one of the 2 admins on this system, my directory is private, under the sharing tab in the properties, and i have quite an obsecure password. im sure there is no spyware on my system, tho ive run a check just in case. spybot S&D nothign about firefox some logs and some other stuff, somthign abuot IE , cache and cookie related. im goign to run a full virus check, get adaware and run that, and see waht else i can find that shouldnt be there i have no idea wahts going on. hopefully someone here can shead some lite on this problem for me. Once again , Merry Christmas |

[edit] would firefox be HKEY_USERS|S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Inter net Settings\User Agent!=Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE; Win32) by any chance? or at least teh settings/history/bookmarks for it |

| 307366 | 2004-12-25 08:27:00 | Mirddes If you have a good backup copy of your system, a Ghost image etc, look here: C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Start Menu Copy and paste all the items in the good Start Menu to the faulty one. See if that helps. I recently had this happen (again) on an older windows ME system and a slight variation of the above fixed it, though I don't know what caused the Start Menu items to disappear in the first place. :) |

| 307367 | 2004-12-25 08:33:00 | Your firefox bookmarks shouldn't just "disappear". You may find that a new profile was somehow started which gives you the default bookmarks again. If you go looking in the various profile folders, you might find you original profile folder along with your bookmarks. You can find where your profile folder is located for your OS here (www.mozilla.org). | Jen (38) | ||

It did an auto upgrade, as a result bookmarks and Password memories went--Somewhere??????? I turned the install s/w auto feature off now, as I know its there. Is this a possible cause of the dilema??
