308074 2004-12-27 10:15:00 Hi,

I just bought two Hitachi 80gb hard drives from Supercheap PC in town. When I install either of them in my machine, they just click and the Bios either doesn't detect them or detects them wrongly. I have tried with multiple jumper positions (Master, Slave, CS, 15 Head, 16 Head) to no avail.

Whats the chance of two faulty drives?

No. I've tried in two different PC's. Neither is the old machine.

Machine 1)

Is a KT-333 M/B, with Athlon XP.

Currently running a Seagate 40gb
350W PSU

Machine 2)

Asus P4S533 M/B running 1.8GHZ P4
Currently running a WD 80gb
300W PSU

The Hitachi drives both have odd types of jumpers. I think this may be part of the problem.

You can select 16 Head Mode, 15 Head Mode, "Forcing Dev 0", "Forcing Dev 1 Present", "Auto Spin Disable, and more"
