1376947 2014-06-11 10:27:00 I have a client of mine that has Windows 7 Home with VMware running his old XP OS from an old laptop.

I never set this up.

Win 7 has a USB HP printer attached and prints fine. XP in the VM was printing fine but now will not.

When the VM starts a message say that USB device HP Printer is available and it shows as being connected but still will not print. If I turn off the VM, go to setting and untick the option to use USB devices automatically it still show as connected in the VM. If I try to disconnect the printer when the VM is started an error that the printer is in use by the host and cannot be disconnected.
Device Manager on both machines shows no device issue.

An ideas where else to look. I have not had much to do with VMware as normally use HyperV.

Cheers

1376949 2014-06-12 08:40:00 Thanks for the links. Will give that a go and report back. I did share the printer and could ping the host from the VM XP but could not find the printer. Got access denied when manually tried to connect but that's as far as I got before I decided to search for a fix to the usb connection. berryb (99)
1376950 2014-06-13 04:41:00 That HP issue didn't seem to be the issue.

I since found out that printing via the USB had never worked and this was the first time they had tried since this was setup for them.

I then got user and share permissions sorted between Win 7 and XP and shared the printer and connected as a network printer.

Cheers for the help
