| 1362286 | 2013-12-11 06:59:00 | There are quite a few knowledgeable people here and I need to get some advice. For reasons that are not really relevant here my son no longer has a place in the OSCAR programme. As we both work till around 5.30 at the earliest we need him picked up and looked after from 3pm. We don't have the money to pay anyone to do this, well not what would be called an acceptable rate any way. So one of the ideas we had is this and this is where the advice comes it, could this work and would we run afoul of any laws? We are thinking of offering free room and board to someone (female preferably) to pick him him at 3 look after him till one of us gets home during normal week days and although this does not seem like a lot of work for what we are offering we would also need the person to cover 8am - 6pm during the school holidays, all weekends are off. Is this doable? Is this fair? |

Or, advertise at his school for someone who could provide after school care. I would be very careful with your original plan. A person who doesn't work will generally be on a benefit, and most are expected to find work to get off the benefit. They may not stick around for long. Have you talked to Work and Income to see if you are entitled to any assistance with childcare? |

| 1362290 | 2013-12-11 08:14:00 | Oscar is $500 a month and to pay for a carer would cost a minimum of $15 an hour that is $60 a day or $300 a week and $1200 a month, that is just for 4 hours a day. During the holidays that spikes to a 9 hour day so thats $135 a day and $675 a week. I don't know too many people in Christchurch with that kind of money just lying around any more. We do not qualify for any Government assistance. |
