1361220 2013-11-30 05:37:00 Hey guys,

I was looking for a handheld device that I could watch movies on, with a decent enough battery life (At least 4 hours minimum), for like long car trips.
What is the cheapest option/s?

Thanks

P.S. I would like something that has a micro or normal sd card slot

1361221 2013-11-30 07:09:00 Maybe a 7 or 10" tablet, good format support and the ability to a lot more than just watch movies. Nexus 7 for example is a very nice machine.
Even the cheaper dual core tablets should work although some may require encoding movies to a compatible format.

If you have a budget between $400-$800 you should be able to get an iPad or Android tablet both of which should do 10 hrs of battery life which is fine for watching movies. I think Android tablets do expandable SD cards. iPads just sync with the iCloud or iTunes to transfer your movies to the device.

So take your pick.

1361223 2013-11-30 20:34:00 I saw the Kobo Arc at Harvey Norman for $150, would that do well? It is dual core, 1GB RAM and a HD 7" display. darkoverlord123 (16996)

If you are wanting to watch movies then the screen and the resolution are important. I can't find any resolution specs for the Kobo Arc, but the Kobo Arc 7HD seems to have the same screen resolution as the Nexus 7 2013: 1920 x 1200.

That said, I have only heard of Kobo in relation to E-ink ebook readers, so I have no idea what they're like (or if the Kobo Arc 7HD is even available in NZ) - in fact the Kobo Arc 7HD looks to be a clone of the latest N7 (but apparently with less battery life than the N7)...

I bought both my sons a used PSP. Paid $50 for each of them. Games we picked up for $5 or $6 each

I threw on half a dozen movies and a hundred or so songs.

Some of the best money Ive ever spent.

Nah, just kidding :-)

Cheap = will not be able to see the movie in bright sun : ie in the car with sun coming in the window
How small will be too small for you. Many mp3 players have a small screen & can play movies.
Does it need to have a built in speaker ?

Perhaps a portable DVD player. Some of those can play movies off a SD Card & have a built in speaker.
Something that plugs into the car cig lighter socket will play forever (allmost)
