1376927 2014-06-19 04:21:00 You'll find a lot of people avoid doing it from within windows because the potential for a problem is a little greater than from a boot disk or BIOS utility.
Nothing wrong with using the windows updater, I do it myself most times these days, but it's always been safer to not have the OS running while doing a BIOS update which is why you usually get told one of the other methods when asking for advice.

1376928 2014-06-19 06:26:00 People used to use the ASUS BIOS update program in windows. BUT, what they did wrong was try and download the update then update it. And it used to freeze the system, they rebooted, it killed it

What they should have done was download the update extract it then load it through the program. Then flash the updated BIOS

I don't trust Winflash programs either, always flash in DOS from a bootdisk if I can.

I have taken on-board the sage advice offered here, clearly I naively took a huge risk. But I read the instructions and notes thoroughly, and checked everything twice to ensure I was following the instructions to a 'T'. Possibly some people aren't quite as pedantically thorough as me on that score.
I have to say - its lovely knowing exactly what time it is at a glance. :)

1376931 2014-06-19 09:07:00 To be fair, Windows flash utilities aren't all bad all the time. I have used them when there is nothing else available and usually with no problems. I just don't trust them much because I have seen them (and had it happen myself) that they froze up. Never had that happen in DOS. Agent_24 (57)
