www.trademe.co.nz

HP DC7800 Slim desktop.

intel DUAL-CORE 2.33GHZ,

4gb ram

80 gb hard drive

putting a graphcis card in it and some of the items i have suggested would flesh it out rather nicely.

Though its probably all I need, couldn't stand the feeling of deprivation.

1361681 2013-12-06 05:25:00 That TM system should be under $100 IMO.

But the issue remains if I were to spend $200 on a used system I rather go new with a warranty etc. but I gather these days there are less who are interested in PCs.

1361683 2013-12-06 05:37:00 We can all still continue to drive Mazda 323's and Ford Telstars. Not that fuel efficiency thou and doesn't have all the user friendly system and safety aids. But meets the road worthiness. :punk: Nomad (952)
1361684 2013-12-06 06:50:00 The biggest problem with buying a new PC is a Win 8 infestation.
That's like buying whips for your own flogging.

1361685 2013-12-06 18:26:00 I suppose the virus scanners, anti-malware scanners, windows updates, av and am updates, each individual application with a separate updater (adobe, java, etc.) is just a doddle for joe/jane average.

Every "non-technical" windows user I see has a systray full of flashing update notifications, along with a browser full of toolbars and half a hundred rogue background processes.
.

Then you haven't taught them well.
My least literate customer now has the most clean, uncluttered, pollution free PC out of everyone (bar techs) that I know.
She paid attention.

And what has that to do with hardware anyway? The fact is tablets etc are becoming more popular and PCs less so.

Seriously?
I wouldn't touch a case like that, I wouldn't touch anything end0use HP either, 80GB is not even viable these days, you do know what the smallest HDD is now? 80GB must be a million years old by now and probably on the point of death.

And you think you could get a decent GPU in that case - with the crap PSU it no doubt has?

You think old junk will encourage people to want PCs? It's like trying to attract people to cars with a rusted Morris Minor.

.

Notice the complete lack of interest in it - notice how many of these things there are on Trademe, notice how many don't sell.

No-one cares.

You want to go into the computer wreckers business, go ahead, good luck, I doubt you'll make a living from it.

I usually haven't taught them at all - I'm usually based at the bottom of the cliff.

And what has that to do with hardware anyway?Nothing. FUD needs identifying.
The fact is tablets etc are becoming more popular and PCs less so.Indeed. And that's a whole new can of worms. At least your pwned PC isn't (necessarily) tied to your credit card....
