1361641 2013-12-06 01:09:00 Do you have any thoughts on the Sony Bravia 32 inch R400A Series BRAVIA TV Model: KDL32R400?

I see a few of those on Trade Me for around $399. My current Philips flat screen is the same size, and on reflection I don't think a larger screen is a good idea in my unit; I've discounted the larger Veon on some of the negatives becoming apparent.

Haven't used them, sorry, so couldn't give any useful insight. We've only got Panasonic & Veon atm. You could probably get an LG 32" for about $450, may be what I would look to. Depends if you want full HD, though. Most of the brands you'll pay $600-odd for Full HD at 32+. Veon and Akai are probably the ones that will be under that.

1361642 2013-12-06 01:12:00 Hey guys

This is on sale at The Warehouse for only $399 - a "loss leader" as the marketers say. I'm tempted, having just hefted my 56kg 32" Philips 60hz CRT dinosaur around in the process of spring cleaning ...

I'd probably watch no more than 10 hours a week, Don't change much between TVOne or Prime and not being an audiophile, sound is not an issue for me.

Does anyone have any advice on this particular brand or comments? Greg and Gary67 you both posted favourably in a previous thread. With more water under the bridge, in hindsight do you have any update?

Thanks for any input you mcan offer :)As per my recent stuff... get it. I'm still very happy with mine. And the sounds ain't bad.

1361643 2013-12-06 09:00:00 What you watch isn't the issue - it's reliability. Buying a cheap TV every year or so isn't as economical as buying a quality one for more and having it last for 10 years or so.

That is a false premise, in my opinion.

Allowing that the cheap TV did die at 12 months or even 24 months, and the warranty was 12 months, you'd still get it repaired or replaced at no charge under your rights via the CGA. Most retailers now know better than to argue with the CGA.

If it failed at three years, cheap or not you'd still get a repair under the CGA on the basis of premature failure, but again, most likely a replacement because the economics of servicing a low cost TV don't add up, and providing a replacement would be cheaper and faster.

Personally I don't think that current TVs would last 10 years anyway, our last two (Panasonic) CRT TVs were still going at 26+ years without a failure, but you won't get that life out of an LCD with CFL backlight. LED backlighting is more durable but it remains to be seen how long the TV itself will last, and I'm picking that they won't make the 10 year mark, either through failure, or through the owner's decision to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

Cheers

Mmm, but who wants the thing to die that quick? And I wouldn't be that keen on a repair.....son bought a Warehouse junk TV once, it died completely at 3 months.

They insisted on repair, an argument ensued (I took it back) and eventually they refunded. I then went elsewhere and bought a decent one which is still going....thats quite some time ago now - 6 years?

1361645 2013-12-06 20:19:00 Thanks guys for all your input.

I've taken on board the comments about longevity and reliability - and decided not to fix something that isn't broken. The Philips gives me a great picture - 32" flat screen CRT with 100hz (I thought it was 60hz as posted), and I've just discovered a control for dynamic contrast that I never knew was there. The only negative is the CRT and 56kg weight of the thing, neither of which has any significance until I need to move it away from its corner.

It's 6 years old now and hopefully good for at least another 6? Thanks.

:D

1361646 2013-12-06 20:36:00 We have 2 Veons here, a 37 and a 39 both work all good, we did have a few other warehouse tvs in the past and have only just got rid of our last crt we bought there, 7 + yrs old and it was still going, but the picture dropped in one corner............ it went to the recycle centre, as it was way to hard for me to move by myself regularly............
i would buy another veon from there no worries........... :)
