1361657 2013-12-05 11:08:00 getting these bugs... or whatever they are, around 2cm long, crawling into the house these days, never had them before!
they tend to climb up wall or ceilings, but actually never moves most of the time
looks like a chunk of dust stuck on the wall if if you don't look closely

finally saw one moving today, so thought I'll take some video/photos and try to identify them
for a while I didn't even know if these things were alive or not... but the photos show they've got legs so I guess they're some insect or something

I've attached the photos, anyone know what they are??
been curious for a few weeks now

1361659 2013-12-05 19:14:00 It could be what I think is called a bagworm moth. The caterpillar lives in a bag made from silk and whatever it gathers from around it. It is extremely strong and you cannot rip them open to see the caterpillar inside - you have to cut it open. You would normally find them on trees since the bag blends in with the branches. They tend to be active at night and rest during the day thus you do not see them move often during the day.

1361660 2013-12-06 10:27:00 thanks fot the bug sites, looks more like this to me: www.landcareresearch.co.nz

I'm pretty sure one of them tried climbing up a wall but fell off!
the outer layer does look quite random and bit of a mess
two of them decided to hang off a edge today, looks very fragile though

Good site that isn't it, anyway the thing is harmless unless you have a Wattle tree.

1361662 2013-12-06 18:49:00 Moth infestation in your wool carpets?

Try looking for moth-eaten carpets, under windows normally left open with reasonable light throughout the day streaming in, or under beds, tables, low furniture, couches etc, close to corners and walls.

If you find them use fly-spray liberally sprayed directly onto carpet to eliminate.

1361663 2013-12-06 19:44:00 Does it emit a low pitched intermittent hum?

If so, then it is a hum bug ...

:groan:

(Sorry, I couldn't resist it)

1361664 2013-12-07 03:41:00 Yeah, I've had moths about this time of year for the last 3 years.

They're surprisingly tolerant of fly spray... takes a while to knock them off.

They seem to like the cupboard with the tea bags in it.

Licorice tea is magnifique.

1361666 2013-12-07 11:12:00 um.. I'll check the carpet tomorrow but the carpet is not completely wool I think.
To be honest I have no clue how they got in, they move so slow I should have be able to spot them before they reached the bathroom.
