1476135 2021-04-06 21:12:00 Son is losing D: intermittently.
It's a WD 1TB, he's not sure which he has 2 the same (as well as an SSD) - that's hard to explain to him how to see, I gave up.
I had him run chkdsk and also the WD check sw, which reported all was healthy.
I'm getting him to swap the sata cable today - he has to buy one....he did push them in in case of loose.

Any ideas other? HDDs are older than MB although not ancient.

In case I've forgotten something obvious. Event viewer doesn't show any disk errors but still, that isn’t entirely clearing it...could be the HDD controller.

MB is 3 years old.
I said if cable doesn't cure it he might have to send it down, he's not technical enough to troubleshoot further really.

Case in point, when I was up he said printer was stuffed. I didn't believe him and had a look, he had hooked it up (wifi) as a network printer, lol, I put it to local and it was all better...

1476136 2021-04-06 22:12:00 Its usually HD hardware issues . (usually)
Unfortunately, some flakey HD's can pass every test you throw at them .

Is it a WD Green ?
or is it actually a USB HD ?

1476137 2021-04-06 23:55:00 What is That 'D' Drive for, Anyway?:

www.pcworld.com

I wouldn't use D drive for a removeable HDD, I've never seen it used that way.

WD Blue, internal.

D: - there is no optical drive, just HDDs....SDD = c: then D: and E: being WD Blue satas...

1476139 2021-04-07 03:11:00 Could be something as simple as dust in the SATA sockets, seen it happen often enough, unplug them, blow out put back and all's well.

Could also be a failing SATA Cable or power plug or SATA Socket on Motherboard.

If its intermittent sometimes its a case of change plugs see what happens. Nothing worse than not being able to replicate a fault.

Some people give rather strange looks when I say , lets hope what ever the Problem is, it Blows up completely -- :horrified -- hey at least found the problem then :D

1476141 2021-04-07 07:58:00 Best free cloning software? One that will clone smaller to bigger without losing the room? piroska (17583)
1476142 2021-04-07 09:08:00 Cable was my first pick, but maybe also power saving features are letting the drive spin down, and it's maybe a bit dicky about spinning back up in a reasonable time. Paul.Cov (425)
1476143 2021-04-07 21:03:00 There is no power management on anything, it's all off.
He may have cured it...it didn't crash after his chkdsk...not yet anyway....so we'll see.
If it does, well, it can come down to me to look at properly.

Macrium reflect, you can adjust the partition sizes before Cloning to suit.
