1476101	2021-04-05 02:30:00	Hi all, I've just ordered a 1 Tb SSD drive from PB Tech's Easter sale. My main desktop is about 9 years old and still goes well as a tri boot machine . Win XP, Win 7 and Win 10. Do modern SSDs have the same interface as an existing 1Tb hard disk drive and could I experience any issues?? 1476102	2021-04-05 02:46:00	Should be fine, depending on what version of SATA your board has it may limit performance a bit but it should work. I would suggest not trying to format it from the older OS versions though, use the windows 10 OS to format and partition it. And if you plan to clone your existing boot drive onto it use modern cloning software as well.	dugimodo (138)
1476103	2021-04-05 06:09:00	Thanx dugimodo. Had a look on line and it all says that this Gigabyte motherboard will take a SSD fine but the thru put speed may be limited to 350Mbytes. Will most likely use the Samsung clone software but I also have Acronis True Image 2020 that can clone disks.	paulw (1826)

XP has only been used for old analog video editing and DVD creation and last used about 2019 so not a biggy if I have to lose XP or Win 7 and have to start with Win 10 again. Could I just restore the Win 10 only backup image to the SSD and would it boot or will it be a reinstall??	paulw (1826)
1476106	2021-04-07 03:15:00	If all OS's are on the One drive, try using something Like Macrium Reflect and a simple copy/image the whole drive over. Had one the Other day, old XP on a IDE drive, imaged to a Backup drive plugged in a SSD on another PC, imaged back, didn't boot, went back into Macrium, told it to fix the boot problem - away it went good as gold. (had to run Paragon Adaptive Restore to remove all drivers since different hardware) but if the hardware is the same, dont have to do that.	wainuitech (129)
1476107	2021-04-07 22:12:00	Thanx Wai. Will have a go at this next week when I get a spare day. I have Acronis True Image 2020 that can clone disk and I use this for my weekly image backup. According to what I have read as the old 1Tb drive is SATA then a disk clone should work but you never know. Will let you know what the outcome is after I try this..	paulw (1826)
1476108	2021-04-12 01:54:00	Have you done successful restores from the Acronis True Image? I used to use it, but found when I went to restore image to disk, there were many failures Have been using MagicDisc ever since then and have yet to have any failures at all	bevy121 (117)
1476109	2021-04-12 06:10:00	In the past I have and it's got me out of the poo but not this time when I was trying to clone / restore backup from an old SATA HD to a SSD. Had to do a new install.	paulw (1826)
1476110	2021-04-12 06:22:00	Finally got around to trying this today. Put the new SSD onto the USB3 port and ran the Samsung SSD clone software. Win XP, 7 and storage partitions added ok but couldn't add Win 10. Tried the same with Acronis 2020 ran the clone but no Win 10 Just XP and 7. Looks like there is an issue with the win 10 partition. Did a new image backup but it wouldn't restore the Win 10 partition even when trying with the Acronis boot disk. Restored the Win 10 image from the backup to the SSD and that worked OK. Put the disk into the PC and swapped drive 0 cable over no boot. Tried a Win install repair no go and tried to make it bootable. No go. In the finish bit the bullet and did a new install of Win 10 and all OK. I suspect I'll spend most of tomorrow reinstalling all the old apps.	paulw (1826)
