1475548 2021-03-16 22:06:00 My Computer is toasted. I need to re install Windows 10? I have the flash drive but don't know how to use it? Can I install Windows 10 and keep the program? Or do I need to build the computer from scratch? lostsoul62 (16011)

meaning what?
The O/S is unbootable? The hardware has died?

What are the symptoms, after what did it happen?

If you boot off the USB drive, you can go into repair options, to repair/recover/reload
Need to be careful, some repair options will wipe everything .

Otherwise , if you reload Win from scratch , assume everything gets wiped .

It is better to assume that everything is lost, less disappointment that way.

Have you set the boot order in bios to boot from the USB?

1475554 2021-03-19 02:45:00 Is the USB capable of booting. It needs to be. You normally cannot boot from a USB with out the boot files.

Plugging into the mains, do the lights come on to show you have power?

1475555 2021-03-19 03:09:00 If you want to keep some of the files. Back them up by taking the HDD out and plugging into another PC. Nomad (952)
1475556 2021-03-21 05:22:00 I nearly got caught out with this as I used a USB3 drive but the computer I was working on could only boot from USB2 due to its age. I was installing Linux but still the computer was just too old for the drive I tried first. gary67 (56)
