10 Years

You can be held criminally responsible if you kill someone.

12 Years

You can be criminally responsible for other serious crimes.

14 Years

You legally stop being a ‘child’ and become a ‘young person’. This means that you can be held criminally responsible for breaking any law.

None of which means that you will receive a significant form of punishment regardless of what you did.

Totally true, we stopped hanging 12 yr olds hundreds of years ago

About time we started again, regardless of age, for rapists, those who deliberately inflict permanent injury and murderers. Or if that seems too harsh, put them on a chain gang for life, digging the Cook Strait tunnel by hand. I'm guessing most would prefer to be hanged.

But don't let them start on a trans-Tasman tunnel

1479506 2021-08-18 20:52:00 There's still a significant amount of 40-60 year olds getting away with a slap with a wet bus ticket for literally murder these days too. Now, if only we got rid of all the lawyers..... the_bogan (9949)

But who would be left to evade paying tax?

You forget lawyers do the prosecution side too.
Not to mention lawyers who do house transactions, trusts and ACC fights.....

1479509 2021-08-19 11:50:00 I agree with you BM - good parenting and taking an interest in your children is key.
Priroska I understand what you have written but seldom is it enforced. Some sleazy lawyer will claim ' "poor disadvantaged etc " and soft judges will heed such pleas. Guess who reoffends.

Perhaps there should be children licences like gun licences

1479510 2021-08-19 20:07:00 Children should grow on trees and be picked at age 35 when they have learned to be human. Blue Druid (4480)

As opposed to the current practice of having them in a computer simulation for life?

1479512 2021-08-19 21:04:00 I think the computer simulation may have a virus.

Nothing worked as well on me as a quick paddle on the bumski, now, sadly, criminalised.
