1479362 2021-08-14 05:04:00 From a former "pig islander", anywhere in the South Island, although winter is not a good time, unless you ski.

As someone said Caitlin's area not too bad, but again Autumn best time.

Auks.!, used to go up there for accounting conferences 4 times a year, best part was coming back south.

Spent some of my younger years growing up in Tauranga and used to do weekend hikes to the mount with an aunty.

How's it going up there now without the tourists? Few businesses must have taken a bit of a hit.

Well baabits you probably wouldn’t recognise Tauranga or the Mount .

Both places are chaos with traffic jams everywhere and the Council not keeping up with infrastructure needs .

About $100M of Ratepayers Money has been lost through straight out incompetence and we don’t have any Elected Councillors . The Government has taken over running the place and I don’t envy their job .

However, as a holiday destination it is fine and a lot of our problems are Holiday Makers deciding to stay, or relocate here, thus pushing Roading and other infrastructure way beyond its design limits .

Anyway, well worth taking a look yourself . ;)

Yes it has traffic.
But it also has loads to do. beaches, take your pick what sort, bush, shops (Hard to Find is one I'll be visiting), Rainbows End, Domain Museum, Motat, Zoo, parks, etc.
I miss the Op shops there, here they suck. One or two at least there are awesome........my sons work donates (new) vanities to them for instance.

Not just a load of old junk like so many.

Spending time with granddaughter, so no doubt we'll be out every day.

Also making a day trip to Hamilton to visit friends.

Was offered the Accountant's position at the Mount's flour mill, back in the 60's, but that was too far away from our baby sitter. my m-i-l and she did a great job I must add.

Is the flour mill still there?, or do we get our flour from Aus.!!, like the Uncle Toby's now.

Spent quite a few holidays up that way, but as someone has pointed out, too crowded now.

1479368 2021-08-15 06:33:00 Stewart Island, or at somewhat greater cost the Chatham Islands. Been to both twice, the latter in the course of work. Brucem (8688)
