1479210 2021-08-10 08:03:00 No cuts down on the mainland, but we built a house with wetback log burner and flat cookingtop as well as gas cooktop in kitchen, biggest problem for us is no power no water pump but I'm working on a solution for that. gary67 (56)
1479211 2021-08-10 08:03:00 whats annoying is it wasn't all that cold. we have had much colder temps this winter.
so really it was not a case of "increased demand".
it sounds like what happened is one hydro went out and they didn't have the back up running.

We've got our own bore pump too, so picked up a generator earlier this year so I can run a lead to the pump. Have found that being without water is worse than no power.

Er we had hail that day, and a high of 8 degrees.
I was cold. Even with no power cut.

"They" dont want to , "they" arnt forced to. It costs money, and these companies are there to make money.
"we" no longer own all the infrastructure . It was sold off , big mistake :(

This is what happens when dogma of a certain Political party wants to sell national assets & privatize everything.
Its now market forces , the ~free market~ is built around maximizing profits , not maximizing supply .

One of the many companies involved had backup generation capacity. They choose not to fire up that backup capacity (they admitted to this) , it would have been because
of the costs involved for the sake of 1/2 day .

The ubiquitous "they" strikes again. :banthem, or at least clearly identify on whose doorstep to lay the blame ...
