From what you say, it appears you have a perfectly serviceable laptop. You might need to install Windows 7 first and register your licence with Microsoft. After that you can install the appropriate Windows 10 upgrade and the registration shoul carry through. What was said was Our Toshiba laptop would not boot up and had a black screen with no BIOS, no cursor, nothing at all Until we can establish that disconnecting the hard drive changed that it does not sound at all like a perfectly serviceable laptop, hence the suggestion to try booting linux or get into the BIOS now. | 1475987 | 2021-04-01 07:41:00 | There's quite a few reasons as to why a laptop appears not to boot ( no display) Some are: *Battery problems either Main Battery or CMOS *Bad HDD stopping everything *Had a problem esp on older laptops where the plug that goes in the LCD Panel gets dust in it or moves slightly disabling all Graphics giving the illusion of a failed component. *Broken monitor cable between Motherboard and LCD Panel *Failed LCD Panel. *Failed Board. Basically just because it may also not boot from a Linux CD/DVD doesn't mean its beyond fixing. |

| 1475988 | 2021-04-01 10:03:00 | All I was getting at personally is I would not recommend spending money on a hard drive (unless you have another use for it) until getting some indication the laptop can be made to work. Try the free stuff first, then decide if it's worth pursuing it more. |

Was just pointing out that just because there's no Display ( including BIOS) it could be something simple like a Plug come lose. Had that happen on one of my customers laptops. Screen totally black, no life, plugged in a External monitor and that worked, having plenty of spare LCD Panels thought lets try another Panel, I removed the laptops LCD panel and noticed the internal plug to LCD panel "didn't look quite right", it looked seated but the tape showed signs of movement, Unplugged it put it back and Bingo working again good as gold. The person was all set to buy a new one going by advise from some other person. Doesn't always work out good news but in some cases it does :) |
