| 1479237 | 2021-08-10 00:54:00 | In WW1, long before the invention of radar, the British had a way of detecting approaching enemy planes. They used very large parabolas, many metres across, mainly made of concrete, pointing toward the east. The parabola reflected sound waves to a focal point where they could be picked up by a microphone. They could detect aircraft twenty miles away, time enough to give plenty of warning to scramble gun crews and fighter planes. Just thought you might find that interesting. |

| 1479241 | 2021-08-10 21:51:00 | In the 1930's , in the years before WW2 started , the germans flew one of their Zeppelins near the coast of England, in a spying mission . The English left their new radar turned off, so that those Germans couldnt detect the Brits had a good radar system. That may be why the Germans didnt go all out to destroy radar towers in the Battle of Britain |
