1475049 2021-02-14 08:53:00 Just wondering how many people have a Microsoft account? I don't and would prefer not to but Windows 10 really really wants me to. I don't use OneNote, Cortana or any of the programs/apps that require logging in nor play games so have been able to avoid it so far but it is annoying when I tried to check out some of the apps in Win10 and it requires me to log in first.

If you have an account, what was the main reason for doing so?

1475052 2021-02-14 19:43:00 I have a MS a/c , but its not tied to Windows in any way.
I used it to get a free (and unused) outlook.com a/c , I got in early & got the email adress I wanted :)

Also have another at work , also not tied into win in any way

Only used when I need to login to a MS website/portal via a browser .

Thanks, yes I read your excellent post which convinced me to just use a local account when installing Win10 on my new build.

I wasn't aware you could have a MS account just for email that wasn't tied to Windows so thanks for that.

1475057 2021-02-16 22:34:00 I have one but don't use it often. I also don't XBox or game. Skype yes but hardly use those these days. Yep, you can use Outlook or Hotmail email and choose not to have tie into Windows. With Windows you can choose to have just a standard username like the good old days. Nomad (952)
1475058 2021-02-22 00:24:00 Yes, I have one and need it occasionally, but it is really neither here nor there. I see no reason to not have one if it is part of the system and can make some things easier. Richard (739)
