| 308544 | 2004-12-29 06:46:00 | I don't know of any free mapping software Prescott, but I have to create quite a few property maps and I make them in MS Publisher. I have set up templates with 0.5 cm & 1cm grids and I choose the appropriate one according to the scale I need. I find it quite quick to draw maps provided I have reasonable site measurements. It gets fairly hairy if the site is hilly but a good representation can be achieved with a bit of work plus reference to the official land records to get the bird's eye view. Cheers Billy 8-{) :stare: |

| 308549 | 2004-12-29 08:55:00 | Hi Prescott. Check around your friends in the deep south for anyone with a Rotorua produced programme called TUMONZ. I live in the Nelson area and can zoom in on my own section. Not free, but magic. | Scouse (83) | ||

Most district/city councils (and some regional councils) have their GIS (Geographic Information System) available online and you can usually take screenshots or similar of these. If you're a high-school student (who cares if its for school or not :p) some councils also give this sort of information in other formats to schools/students for nothing or for small donations, so they might be able to extract the data from their GIS in a format you can use (PDF, JPG, TIF, DXF, or similar). Give them a call (hopefully they're open at this time of year). If you were in Tauranga I might have been able to help ;) You could also try a local surveyor, as they often have local boundary etc. information available and might be willing to help (although possibly will want some kind of payment)... However all this might not be what you're wanting as you probably want internal boundaries and stuff which the council or surveyors might not carry (I have no idea if that sort of info is kept by local authorities). | 308551 | 2005-01-02 11:19:00 | Hi Yes there is free mapping software avaliable which would be more than suitable to make a map of your farm Visit www.ocad.com and you will be able to download version 6 of the program. Its a few versions back from the current, but is still useable. Its vector based so you can print/display it at any size without distortion. I use the current version to make orienteering maps superoman |
