308514 2004-12-29 06:07:00 Should there be a product key on the envelop containing the CD for Norton Antivirus 2001? Thanks. Billy (6701)
308515 2004-12-29 06:10:00 Dont think so, just 2004 and 2005. Speedy Gonzales (78)
308516 2004-12-29 06:42:00 i wouldn't bother useing nortons 2001 anymore, its to darn old. your better off to use a more modern free antivirus. tweak'e (69)
308517 2004-12-29 11:29:00 Product activation on Nortons started on their 2004 series of products and is also on the 2005 series of products. :(

I use 2003 System Works Pro/2002 Internet Security, and keep them both updated.Bought originaly from Dick Smith.

When they expire I just unstall them, reboot and install them again and then I am given another year free of new updates! :D

Plus I use Spybot Search and Destroy,Ad-aware Se Personal, and keep them updated/run regulary, update windows xp pro. :)

I update everything before surfing the net, I watch tv while I am waiting for them to finish their updates.

if you wish to do this whilst it still works so be it.

Nortons lost me when they did the following: stopped e mail support for properly licenced and current FPP A/virus.

Refused to upgrade Gohst 2002 to 2003 after selling me 2002 when 2003 was available.

I wasnt happy with the boot times of norton compared to avg before this but these two acts sealed the situation.

I will never buy or recomend another new nortons product again and will promote viable alternatives at legitimate opportunitys.

M/S and nortons market in the same manner, which is why the their new products should be avoided at all costs.

This site has a line on piracy and the like but Companies such as M/S and nortons have created their own problems buy their own behaviour.

308519 2004-12-29 15:50:00 drb1,

I unstalled Nortons!!!

Will use:

Zone Alarm (free) for firewall .
( I am open to other suggestions of free good firewalls)

AVG (free) for anti virus .
(I am open to other suggestions of free good anti virus)

I dont even have any mp3's, and I bet most are not legal, that others have,on pc/ipod/mp3 player etc,ie most have 1000+ songs and then some I bet they did not buy them!!!

At least I did buy my original Nortons from a shop,Dick Smith . :dogeye:

However I finish my justification and have fixed my ways and I know I did wrong but . . . .

Just feel its not fair when others are so blatenly doing it walking down the street be bopping to their 5gig,10gig,20 gig,30gig,etc,etc mp3's, and they sell them in the shops what do they think people are going to use them for?Back up storage devices!!?

How can Sony Corp . that owns movie/music corporations,
say dont do any copying of movie/music,then sell disks, burners, and say here lookie what we made for you please buy them . !!? :illogical

If they really did not like it dont you think they are shooting themselfs in the foot by making these products .

Or maybe there trying to eat their cake too .

The rich are never rich, just comfitable thank you very much .

They will say/do anything to make money and they make up the rules to suit themselfs and their mates as they go along .

If your rich your eccentric . (oh, haha)
If your poor your crazy . (Oh #*&!, really)

It makes me sick .

Did I say I was sorry?Yep I did,my bad!!!

308520 2004-12-29 16:26:00 I may be in a minority, but I have used NAV for years. I am currently useing 2005 and I have no complaints of any sort.
And NAV has never let a virus through to my computer.
I would reccomend you use an ISP that virus checks for you. They let very little through. And then NAV on your computer. That should keep you pretty secure.

308521 2004-12-29 19:12:00 well just two examples..........i've seen viruses get through both xtra email checker and hotmail ............and I've also seen virises get through norton 2004 on about six occaisons last year..............nothing's perfect and norton is such a resource hog that I'd never bother to install it on one of my own pc's also if there is some problem with norton, and I have seen installation/Uninstallation probs with norton, and others, then their website assistance pages are a nightmare to navigate thru with links leading to links leading to links.......also their 'personal' helpline goes to india usually and that's quite a challenge too.......generally I'm not particularly impressed with norton........ drcspy (146)
308522 2004-12-29 19:23:00 I agree with u JJJ. I've also used different versions of NAV and NIS, and never had probs. And it also doesnt help, if u dont update Windows, if u use it and XP, if u use this also. You only have yourself to blame.

You soon know WHO the people are, who dont update, they post here, asking for a remedy.

Thats how a lot of ppl get hit. By not updating.

308523 2004-12-29 19:29:00 Why don't people use Live update?
Install it and forget it.
Never a problem.
