Chill. Yeah, but apparently that gives him two external IP addresses. Perhaps one is gateway or DNS? Any chance of a screenshot Mike? |

| 308632 | 2004-12-29 19:43:00 | Well that's interesting. Last night whatismyip.com and my router's settings did not show the same ip address - they were quite different (in fact the whatismyip.com address had been listed as my ip address for at least the past week :confused: ). This morning, however, whatismyip.com and my router are reporting the same IP address (different to the one I've apparently had for the past week). How confusing :) Mike. |

It sounds like you're typing your command in the Run dialogue rather than a cmd prompt. Open the Run dialogue (Start > Run) and type in CMD and OK. Now you should have a CMD prompt where you can type in your commands and they shouldn't just flash on your screen for half a second. HTH Mike. |

| 308637 | 2004-12-29 20:41:00 | My money is on a transparent proxy - most sites like "whatsmyip.com" etc are only able to report the IP of the proxy retrieving the page for you, rather than your machine directly. | ninja (1671) | ||
| 308638 | 2004-12-29 23:48:00 | Knowing what ISP he's with could help. And connection type - ADSL, Cable? | george12 (7) | ||
| 308639 | 2004-12-30 00:15:00 | www.whatismyip.com (http://www.whatismyip.com/) will give you your true, external IP address. Thats not quite true. If you are running through a transparent proxy (as some ISP's do) then it will return their IP address. Your real IP address is in the router somewhere. On mine it shows my static LAN IP and my actual WAN (or NAT) IP address. This is the real one. |
