| 308524 | 2004-12-29 19:35:00 | Well even tho u can set Liveupdate, to automatically update whatever you still have to use it manually to search for some updates. So u cant set and forget it. Otherwise it wont update anything at all. This is ONLY for NAV/NIS not windows. Altho u can set Automatic updates to tell u when u need to install/update something for Windows. |

I use 2003 System Works Pro/2002 Internet Security,and keep them both updated . Bought originaly from Dick Smith . When they expire I just unstall them, reboot and install them again and then I am given another year free of new updates! with 2003 they started the antipirate messures . my 2003 you can't uninstall/reinstall to get a new updates . Why don't people use Live update? Install it and forget it . spedy is on the money about that . on several occasions that I've seen norton miss viruses the program had been right up to date which is what happens when you don't manually run liveupdate :( well i've had every nortons from 2000 to 2003 and i don't think i will bother again . nortons always used to crash and die every so often so it would get uninstalled/reinstalled with free updates being the bonus . 2003 ver so far has been the worse . even there fix's sem to break something else . the latest program update made nortons a whole lot quicker but speed disk, disk doctor and image no longer work ! <grrrr> you can't download a lot of the program updates manually (you have to use live update) so doing reinstalles are a pain (you have to have a net connectio) unlike AVG and a few others which let you download a fully updated ver which makes reinstalls a lot easier . lastly they don't update the core very often, (eg they updated 2000 ver to the 20001 core) so the program gets old and performs poorly against the new virus's even tho you have a fully paid sub . also i think the cost of AVG and others is cheaper than nortons subs! (and are 2 year subs in some cases) . what a nice morning rant ;-) |

The comment on piracy was iterateing site policy before some one went complaining . The whole music/video industry has to revamp its distribution policys . Nortons products come under applications . There is no reason why any application should not be sold, as long as the Source code is FREELY available . Copywrighting an O/S is like copywrighting a Hammer . Then saying every body in the world who uses said must first pay, and pay again every time I change the Hammer Head colour . As to your comments on Sony, very apt . D . |

MicroSCAM updates and F***S expensive commercial application's, destroys data and does thousands of dollars worth of damage and MICROSCAM say: You should have updated to all our new digitallay signed drivers that have only been out 24 hour's not our problem . We will fix it for you at $150-00 plus per hour . How many times have patches caused MAJOR commerciall problems costing Millions, and MicroScam just walk away . XP is NT 6 . the whole NT system is nothing more than a collection of patches that regularly fall apart . Fact IBM still will not allow SP2 to be installed on any inhouse IBM machine running windows . WHY??????? IF you run a totally M/S controlled and supplied signed unit auto updates work . The second you deviate from this situation Auto updates are an Auto accident waiting to happen . Auot updates will NOT PROTECT you from most viriuses untill well after the fact, why?????? Because the virus has to be: created, released, attack machines and be detected . Then a PATCH has to be developed and made available . This is why Anti Terroist forces are normally part of a step behind, at least . Malware is Terrorism . The same rules apply . D . |
