308915 2004-12-30 10:06:00 Hey,

Im installing Gentoo on my new box, that I'm using as an FTP server.
How and where do I set the Jetstreamgames realm as the place that I want to download the bulk of it from? I get to the stage in the handbook where It states to surf to the mirror list, and I cannot find it there....

Can I specify it manually somehow?

308916 2004-12-30 10:19:00 Ping it so you get the IP Address, then:
nano /etc/make.conf
GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://mirror.pacific.net.au/linux/Gentoo mirror.isp.net.au ftp://mirror.isp.net.au/pub/gentoo/ http://mirror.gentoo.gr.jp"

Add it so that the JSG IP is the first one in there. You may also need to add that to /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf if not in the chroot environment

nano???

vi 4 lyfe

308918 2004-12-30 12:01:00 Personally I prefer vim over vi, but nano is the default for Gentoo, and is included on all the Boot CD's ;) Vi is not as easy to use, and is not included. Chilling_Silence (9)

While the JSG Realm has most things, it doesnt have _all_ the up-to-date files.

Try:
emerge whateverapplication -f
This will "fetchonly", Or in human terms will simply download all the packages and not actually compile anything. This is great so you can just grrab what you need from the JSG realm and then get back to the internet... :)
