309120 2004-12-31 00:59:00 The old psu will not work(i just tried it). Sparks flew out of the friggin thing. Should I just buy another?
also, i had a concern that maybe some more important parts might have been damaged when the sparks issued from the psu(processor, RAM chip, mb). Is that likely?

309121 2004-12-31 01:10:00 jeezuz! Sparks flew from it?!

If its under warranty take it back and complain...

It may not be working because the BIOS detects that the PSU is too inadequate... (???)

If the exploding power supply damaged other components and its under warranty it should cover all bits shouldnt it guys?

309122 2004-12-31 01:16:00 bios dosn't "detect a psu".....the cpu etc just won't run due to lack of power.

if the psu blew then take it back for replacement. it should be under warranty. no idea if you will get any other parts under waranty if they are damaged.

however........first thing to do is take the motherboard out of the case and look for any burn marks on the back of it.

309123 2004-12-31 01:24:00 And as Tweak'e has already said, if the mobo has the p4 4 pin connection, THEN u have to get a PSU that has the connection. So there's enough power/juice going to the CPU.. Otherwise as Tweak'e has said also, it wont boot the system up. Speedy Gonzales (78)
309124 2004-12-31 02:14:00 k thx i think i no what i should do ill probably just make sure all my parts are in working condition and then get a new power supply and that should do it(i think) huntgrav (6725)
309125 2004-12-31 02:17:00 also everything is under warranty (cept the processor i think) huntgrav (6725)
309126 2004-12-31 06:56:00 I don't mean to discourage you huntgrav but I think your knowledge level is not high enough for this job.
Either do some research or take everything you've got left to a technician to sort out before you have nothing left to build the PC with.
Have a read up here for the basics, but as you're finding out it's just not as easy as slap 'er together & fire 'er up

309127 2004-12-31 10:12:00 If it wont power up there are two things to check

Plugged in and switched on
Switch works

If those two thing check out OK then it would be the psu
