309171 2004-12-31 03:17:00 I have just installed Windows 98SE to a new
hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite 4080XCDT. I want to
install a new display driver file s259vid8.exe which I
downloaded from Toshiba support site. This driver is for
the Trident Cyber 9525DVD controller. My current driver
supports only 640x480 16 color. The file is on a floppy
which I executed to a temporary folder on drive C:, and when I attempt to install it this message (program has
performed an illegal operation and will be shut down} appears followed by the following details. Can you help please?

309172 2004-12-31 03:22:00 Try copying the file, from the floppy to the hard drive then run it. Speedy Gonzales (78)
309173 2004-12-31 04:52:00 Try a fresh download to you HDD. Before executing the file remove/uninstall your current display driver, back to default win98 display drivers then load the new one. Murray P (44)
309174 2005-01-03 04:08:00 Thanks for the replies. Have copied the floppy to the HD but there doesnt seems to be an install file on it. I have also tried to get a fresh download but have struck a problem with my modem which had to be set up. That was done ok but its not working. The system shows no resources allocated to it. Anyone got a lifebelt. Looks like a visit to PC doctor may be the best option. :) Karen (1152)
309175 2005-01-03 04:30:00 how did you try and install this new driver?
you say it unpacked to a temp folder,
try this
using the add hardware wizard select new hardware video card and tell it search your hard drive for the drivers.
also a silly question
but you have got the drivers for 98 you may have downloaded the xp drivers

309176 2005-01-03 04:35:00 You should just need to double click on the s259vid8.exe file, although it's a 1999 file so you may need to point at it from your device manager Dispay Adapter properties > Update Driver > Select File/Driver > Browse to where the file is (rather than CD or floppy). Struggling to remember win98 protocols but, usually you would point to an .inf or vdx file or some such not an exe, worth a try though. Murray P (44)
309177 2005-01-03 04:38:00 Looking at the Toshiba support site for your laptop model drivers, it appears the display driver you need should be called TRID_V221.EXE and not s259vid8.exe:

Win98SE - Display - Windows 98SE Trident Display Drivers - TRID_V221.EXE

Go here (www.isd.toshiba.com.au) and follow the links for Support > Download Centre and then click on your Product | Family | Series to find the drivers suitable for your laptop.

309178 2005-01-03 04:40:00 Ah Beama, good one.

Unpack the exe by double clicking (assuming there is no installation routine built in), then point to the unpacked files by Add/Remove Hardware or by using Control Panel > Devices Manager, as above, except don't let windows search for the files, browse to where you unpacked them instead.

I got the s259vid8.exe too Jen, once I clicked on the download button here (www.csd.toshiba.com). Have I got the wrong one? You'll need to enter 98 and the model number in the filter boxes yourself as the search refreshes when linked

Karen, do you know for certain what type of video controller you have?

[edit]OK, I just looked at your laptop manual and the video controller chip is a Trident Cyber 9525 DVD.
